PRE-INSTALLATION
- Make sure the
sub-floor is clean, dry and level. New concrete slab will take 3-5 months
to dry throughly.
- Inspect the
planks for obvious defect if any.
- Leave the flooring
at room tempurature for few days to acclimate under actual conditions.
GLUE DOWN INSTALLATION -
can be laid over wood or concrete sub-floor
Material needed:
high grade wood adhensive.
- When the site
where moisture condition are of no concern, start planks square with the
room paralle to its longest dimention, but leave 1/2" expansion space
from the base plate or wall.
- Spread wood
adhensive evenly on the sub-floor to cover the area installer can lay the
planks in time for best result of the glue. Apply the wood adhensive to
the sub-floors and place flooring onto wet adhensive immediatly. Make sure
the initial rows are firmly in place.
- Start the second
row by selecting a board that is at least 6" longer or shorter than
the neiboring one.
- Repeat the
process with all other boards.
GENERAL
CARE
- Regularly
sweep or vaccum to prevent sand or abrasive dust from accumulating and scratching
the finish. Do not use wet- mop a wood floor. Standing water dull the finish,
damage the wood and leave a discoloring residue. Wipe up spills immediately
with a slightly dampened towel.
- Place a doormats
outside and rugs inside at every entrance of the house, again to prevent
sand or abrasive dust from accumulating on the floor.
- Place a rug
in front of the kitchen sink, kitchen working stations, dishwasher to protect
floor from dropped kitchen accessories and water or oily detergent spills.
- Use adequate
floor protection (wood floor protector pad) under all furnitures and chair
legs, in order to ease their movement and to protect from scratching the
floor.
- The relative
humidity level in your home must be maintained at 45% (i.e. 40-50%) throughout
the year. Hardwood is a living substance which reacts to changes of relative
humidity. It absorbs or release humidity according to seasons. Consequently,
its dimension changes. In summer, when humidity is at its highest. It is
absorbed by the wood which then expends. These variation can be minimized
with proper ventilation, dehumidifying or heating. In winter, on the other
hand, when the heating system is on, the relative humidity level in the
house is much lower. It is then recommended to use a humidifier, in order
to minimize extreme shrinkage effects.
- Keep "high
heel" shoes in good condition. Damage or worn high heels may expose
a metal tip which will certainly damage your hardwood floor.
- Protect your
floor against direct from sunlight or any intense source or artificial lighting.
Over time, intense light will discolor exposed surfaces. This phenomenon
with wood surfaces is nomal and natural. The lighter the color of the natural
wood, the more apparent this pheonomenon will be.
